La Amistad Biosphere Reserve and Park
La Amistad Biosphere Reserve and International Park is one of UNESCO’s World Heritage Sites. It is the largest protected area in Central America and of enormous biological importance. Parts of the Biosphere Reserve are remnant areas whose forest survived the ice ages intact (“Pleistocene refugia”). This gives the area great biological wealth. One of the few points of access to this reserve is through La Amistad Ecolodge and Rainforest Reserve.
