Philosophy of Sustainability and Balance
For over 60 years, La Amistad Ecolodge, Rainforest Reserve and Coffee Estate has been showing the world how to live “sustainable development” long before the term existed. Every day, we demonstrate how to integrate sound economic development with the best sustainable environmental and social practices.
We have operated an organic, fair trade, shade-grown coffee estate since 1940, set deep in the rainforest that we actively conserve. We deal fairly and provide a good living for our neighbors, who live on coffee land given to them by Jorge Zeledón Castro, founder of our estate and our principles. We conserve almost 9,500 hectares (23,465 acres) of virgin wilderness adjacent to La Amistad International Park.
We offer ecotourism in true wilderness, the opportunity to participate in sustainable coffee production, and an unequaled site for natural history exploration and research.
